John Tyrrell was Sheriff of Hertfordshire and Essex in 1413 and 1423. Knighted in 1431, he was appointed Treasurer of the Royal Household in May of that year. It was a role he kept until his death in 1437.[1] He was also elected Speaker of the House of Commons in 1421, 1429 and in the year of his death, 1437.[2]
Tyrrell acquired the Manor of Hunsdon from John Hinxworth of Ashwell in 1423 and held it from then until at least 1428 (it is unclear what happened beyond this).[3] It is believed he built the porch, the tower and the belfry screen.
